IDruM Percussion
Technique·musicianship·creativity
Professional drum and percussion instruction based in Asturias, Spain. Rooted in performance and practical musicianship, Ian’s teaching brings together technique, creativity and over twenty-five years of experience behind the instrument.

Behind IDruM
IDrum Percussion brings together more than twenty-five years of experience in percussion performance and education. Ian has taught drum set and pipe band percussion across a wide range of ages and abilities, from first lessons and fundamental technique through to advanced performance and competition. His teaching experience has taken him internationally, including working with the National Piping Centre in Scotland and serving as Director of Percussion with the Royal Oman Police, alongside years of private instruction, ensemble coaching and drum corps development. Now based in Asturias, iDrum brings that experience into a dedicated teaching studio built around individual, practical and engaging music education.Whether the goal is learning to play for the first time, developing stronger technique, preparing for performance, or taking playing to a more advanced level, lessons are shaped around the individual musician.
Learning
Learning at IDrum is practical, personal and built around playing. Individual and group lessons are available, with students learning on real acoustic drums and percussion instruments from the very beginning.Lessons are shaped around each student’s strengths, interests and goals, while identifying the areas that need focused development. Technique, coordination, reading, listening, timing and musicality are developed through playing, with the aim of building confident and independent musicians—not simply learning exercises.Tuition is available in both English and Spanish. As a native English-speaking teacher, Ian can also offer students the opportunity to experience English naturally through music—listening, communicating and learning in the language while developing their skills as musicians. For younger students in particular, this creates an environment where English becomes part of an activity they enjoy rather than a separate academic subject.

The Space
IDrum Percussion is based at Katedrale Studios in El Berrón, Asturias—a spacious environment where students can learn, play and develop on real instruments. The studio provides access to acoustic drum sets, high-tension snare drums, hand percussion and a variety of professional equipment, giving students the opportunity to experience the sound, feel and response of the instruments they are learning. With room for both individual and group work, the space is designed to support everything from first lessons and fundamental technique to advanced performance and ensemble playing.More than simply a teaching room, the studio is a space for making music—somewhere students can play at full scale, experiment with sound and become comfortable behind real instruments.
The Approach
Strong musicianship begins with strong foundations. Ian’s approach places technique, sound, timing and control at the centre of learning, giving students the tools to play with confidence and musical freedom. Progress is built gradually and with purpose, balancing focused work with the enjoyment of making music. The aim is not simply to learn songs or exercises, but to understand the instrument and develop the skills to make musical decisions independently. Students are encouraged to listen, experiment, ask questions and take ownership of their progress, with clear expectations and guidance along the way.Behind IDrum is the experience of an active performer, composer and percussionist. The same attention to sound, preparation and musicianship that Ian brings to professional performance shapes his work as a teacher.Explore Ian’s performance and creative work at Ian Morris Music →
